New West Pride Society builds community on the unsurrendered and stolen land colonially known as New Westminster.
This is the land of several Nations, including:
Kwantlen, Kwikwetlem/kwikwəƛə̓m, Musqueam/sχwəye̓m̓ , Qayqayt, Semiahmoo, Tsawassen, and Tsleil-Waututh.
We recognize the ongoing colonial systems which actively harm Indigenous people, and we thank the land and water defenders past, present, and future for their continued work.
New West Pride is committed to continuous learning, relationship-building, and supporting further autonomy of the First Peoples of this land.
This statement was formed through a workshop of our community’s members and allies. We hired an Indigenous guide who helped provide understanding and direction to what our acknowledgement can be.
