If you are seeing this the New West Progressives have not respected our wishes and have come to PRIDE to campaign. If you support our community please ask them to leave politely and that we won’t stand for the support of bigotry at our event.

How we asked and why

Some evidence to support our claims

Cut from Council meeting Jun 9 2025

Daniel Fontaine recognizes and supports the New Westminster Times as a legitimate news source. He has not denounced these comments and continues to be friendly with David Brett in public to this day.

Paul Minhas supported Pierre Poilievre when he came to New West during the federal election. Pierre regularly states that trans people don’t exist and has endorsed candidates and elected officials that are harming trans/queer folk. He hasn’t denounced or apologized for this to date.

We extended invitations to come and be a part of our community listen to what we have to say and hear how they can do better multiple times in this last year. They never acknowledged our invitations.

Their response

After repeated attempts to invite them into conversation and to participate in community events, it was only after we denied their participation at our festival that they were willing to speak with us, and even then, only through a moderator.

We do not believe the burden should fall on those who have been harmed to help investigate or validate the concerns that have been raised. When they were unwilling to engage directly and meaningfully with those concerns, we saw little reason to continue the conversation.

If they are not prepared to support our community, the very least they can do is respect our right to gather, celebrate, and feel safe without the presence of those whose actions have caused harm.

Allyship is not something you claim once and keep forever. It is earned through action, accountability, and a willingness to keep doing the work.

Help us protect Pride. Stand with our community and ask them to leave.
